A Texas native and California resident since 1988, John received a B.A. in Government from The University of Texas, an M.A. in Political Science from Ohio State University, and a J.D. from George Washington University.

John began working as a non-lawyer professional in the field of alcoholic beverage licensing and compliance in 1988, and after being admitted to the California Bar, started his own practice in 1991.

In 2021, John joined forces with his long-time protégé Rik Jeffery to found Gibson & Jeffery, LLP in order to provide top-notch legal services to the alcoholic beverage and hospitality industries.

John A. C. Gibson, the firm’s co-founder, passed away in 2024, leaving Gibson & Jeffery, LLP in Rik’s capable hands. Rik succeeds John thanks to the many years of dedication and wisdom that John was able to teach and pass on.
